Client Project - Groundworks Canada

Groundworks Canada: Reimagining Office Spaces for Smarter Workflows

When Groundworks Canada decided to relocate their office just down the street from their previous location, they weren’t just looking for a move, they wanted a fresh, functional space designed to better support their team’s workflow and growth right from the start.

As a proudly Canadian, employee-owned company, Groundworks delivers reliable foundation repair, basement waterproofing, and concrete services across Calgary, Edmonton, and the Greater Toronto Area. Their teams take pride in every project, combining experience, high-quality materials, and proven solutions to protect and restore homes in the communities they serve.

It was only fitting to provide their team with a better environment that matches the great work they do. This meant outfitting private offices, configuring cubicle workstations, and designing a training room, all while thoughtfully incorporating existing furniture into the new space.

Having already worked with us to furnish their Edmonton office, Groundworks turned to Source to make sure their new office would be put to good use.

Space Planning That Adapts

Originally, the plan was to furnish several private offices, but as the project evolved, Groundworks made the decision to demolish eight small offices, opening the space entirely. This shift created new opportunities and a fresh vision for how the office could better support their team.

Working with Source means having a partner who rolls with the changes. We were happy to adjust the plan as things evolved, and by staying closely connected with the Groundworks team throughout the process, everything transitioned smoothly, without added stress, delays, or extra costs.

The newly opened area would become a 20-person cubicle setup, while additional private offices were to be reintroduced in new locations. They also wanted to incorporate a large training room to accommodate up to 100 people and support ongoing growth and development.

With the vision clearly defined, we got to work helping Groundworks bring their new office layout to life. Our team leaned on our space-planning expertise to carefully configure the cubicle layout, ensuring it supported collaboration while still allowing for focused work. At the same time, we designed a training room layout that maximized seating and functionality without feeling overcrowded.

Using detailed 2D and 3D renderings, we helped the Groundworks team visualize how the space would come together before anything was installed. This made it easier to fine-tune layouts, confirm furniture selections, and move forward with confidence, knowing the final space would work exactly as planned and intended.

Cubicles Built for Teams

The panel system we used to make cubicles was part of Tayco’s Quick Ship offering, which meant we had it delivered in just three weeks. This helped us stay right on track with the project timeline. Tayco Switch is one of our go-to systems for building cubicles thanks to its sleek, low-profile design and flexibility. With a range of heights and sizes that can be configured in countless ways, this collection makes it easy to create cubicle layouts that fit perfectly in any space. Built-in data and electrical connections also help the team stay charged and connected, while keeping cable clutter to a minimum.

Inside each workstation, we used Elements desks in Newport Grey with black legs for a simple, sharp, and modern look. A box/ file pedestal sits underneath each desk giving everyone on the team easy access to personal storage, keeping workstations clean and clutter free

Finally, we furnished each workstation with the CoolMesh Pro Executive High Back Chair to bring lasting comfort and support to Groundworks’ team. CoolMesh is another go-to option for us because it’s ergonomically designed to fit the body. With so many adjustable settings, users truly get a custom seating experience tailored just for them.

Workflow-Ready Private Offices

Just like the cubicle workstations, we used the Elements collection here to keep the look consistent throughout the office. This time, we went with L-shaped desks to give users a bit more room to multitask and spread out their work. L-shape configurations are perfect for creating an easy, efficient workflow without feeling cramped. We finished off the space with the same pedestal and office chair combination used across the office to keep everything feeling cohesive and comfortable.

Flexible Training, Done Differently

The training room was a key space in the office, intended to host anywhere from 30 to 100 people for training sessions and educational events. While the Groundworks Edmonton location used nesting flip-top tables, this space didn’t quite have enough room to accommodate that setup for larger groups. Instead, we pivoted to Classic Square Boardroom tables, which comfortably seat up to eight people at a time. Even though it’s not the typical use for this product, our office furniture is versatile and can be used in many ways. We got creative and delivered a setup that offers flexibility for different types of training and events.

The finished space brings together flexibility, comfort, and thoughtful design, giving the Groundworks team an office that truly works for them. By adapting layouts, rethinking furniture use, and planning with growth in mind, we helped create an environment that supports both day-to-day work and long-term goals. It was a pleasure collaborating with Groundworks Canada to bring this space to life.
